The Victoria
Falls, lying between Zimbabwe and Zambia, is probably this country’s
most famous attraction. This ferocious curtain of water 1700 metres wide
plunges deep into the gorge below sending a spray spiralling high into
the atmosphere to form clouds which is how it gets its name “The
Smoke that Thunders”. Downstream is Lake Kariba, a huge inland man-made
sea that is adorned with submarine forests and surrounded by magnificent
mountains. Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe’s best-known game reserve,
boasting over a hundred different species of animals and four hundred
species of birds.
